How this calculator works
Most oven recipes convert to an air fryer with one rule of thumb: lower the temperature by 25 degrees Fahrenheit and cut the time by 20 percent. This air fryer converter applies that rule instantly, with food presets that adjust the time for fries, vegetables, whole baked potatoes, and reheating. It is a starting point, not a guarantee — air fryer models vary, so check internal temperature (165 degrees Fahrenheit for poultry) rather than trusting the clock alone. For unit conversion between Fahrenheit and Celsius with no recipe adjustment, use the Temperature Converter instead.
Formula
Air fryer temperature = oven temperature minus 25°F. Air fryer time = oven time × 0.8 × food preset factor. Celsius inputs are converted to Fahrenheit, adjusted, and converted back.
Worked example
An oven recipe written for 400 degrees Fahrenheit and 30 minutes converts to 375 degrees Fahrenheit and 24 minutes in the air fryer: 400 minus 25 for temperature, and 30 times 0.8 for time — you save 6 minutes and get the crisper surface the air fryer is known for.
Notes
Rule of thumb for most oven recipes. Frozen packaged foods and thick meats need extra time; always check internal temperature (165°F for poultry) instead of trusting the clock alone.
Inputs
- Oven Temperature
- Temperature Unit
- Oven Time (minutes)
- Food Preset
Common mistakes
- Using the oven temperature unchanged. Air fryers cook more aggressively than an oven at the same setting, so without the 25 degree drop, food browns too fast on the outside.
- Applying the standard rule to frozen packaged foods without a bump. Give frozen items 2 to 3 extra minutes beyond the formula, and follow the package when it has air fryer directions.
- Skipping the halfway flip. The conversion math assumes turning food once — thick items like chicken pieces need it for even browning.
- Overfilling the basket. Crowded food traps steam and undoes the time savings; cook in batches for fries and wings.
